The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost - The First Revival
1. Time :A.D. 30 - It was on the first day of the week, Sunday in the Roman Julian
calendar, May 24th, in the year A.D. 30. This was also the year 3,790 in the
Hebrew calendar.

3. Event :"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled
the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues
of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled
them." (Acts 2:1-4)

The Great Awakening

3. Event :Open air preaching winning multitudes to Christ and profoundly affecting the life
of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and all 13 colonies of America.

5. Impact :Permanent chapels of worship increased from 27 to 926
Temporary ones rose from 506 to 3491
The moral improvement in New England towns was generally recognized

It became a common sight to see businesses closed, with a sign,
"Will reopen at the closed of the prayer meeting."
Home Missions and the Salvation Army extended the evangelistic-social work
of the Awakening in worldwide projects
Hudson Taylor's Faith mission was born
Perry Miller called it "The Event of the Century"
The Welsh Revival
1. Time :1905
2. Place :Wales
3. Event :Evan Roberts focused on the Youth of the time and used great music in his
revival meetings. In about one year, about 100,000 converts were said to be
added to the Welsh Church.
The Welsh Revival is also called, "A Revival with Youth on Fire."

5. Impact :"The Welsh Revival was the farthest-reaching of all the movements of the
The Awakening, for it affected the whole of the evangelical cause in India,
Korea, and China, renewed the revivals in Japan and South Africa,
and sent a wave of awakening over Africa, Latin America, and the South seas."

Shangtung Revival
1. Time :1931
2. Place :Shantung, China
3. Event :Other than spiritual messages presented by local missionaries, the powerful
preaching of Andrew Gih and John Sung with the Bethel Band touched
thousands through out China. From the summer of 1931 to the summer of 1932,
the Bethel Band covered 54,823 miles through 13 provinces, preaching to
approximately 400,000 people in 1199 meetings, with 18,000 recorded
decisions for Christ.

5. Impact :All American missions - Baptist, Presbyterian and Lutheran - reported great
increase in membership. The spirit of this revival spread to every province of
China.
Azusa Street Revival
1. Time :1906-1915
2. Place :Los Angeles - 312 Azusa Street
3. Event :Believers gathered in this house for fasting and prayer. After five weeks of
preaching by pastor William J. Seymour, people were filled with the spirit and
broke out speaking in tongues. Often, anywhere from 300-1,500 people
would attempt to pack into the building.

5. Impact :People of all ages, background and race came to worship the same God with
racial harmony.
This African Methodist Episcopal Church, later renamed as the Apostolic Faith
Mission on Azusa Street, Los Angeles, was considered to be the birthplace of
Pentecostalism.
